Is the idea of moving causing you to worry?

POSTED ON 19 APRIL 2017

If the thought of moving is giving your mind a reason to go into overdrive, then why not take a break from all the planning and visit some of the happiest places in the UK!

Data collected from the Office for National Statistics in the year end of September 2016 has shown the top ten happiest places to live in the UK, as voted by residents. And it may be surprising to see who made it to the top of the list. Could it be London, with its vibrant and diverse culture, or perhaps Poole in Dorset with its beaches and coastal walks?

Well, unfortunately not. In fact, Na h-Eileanan Siar – an isolated group of islands off the north-west coast of Scotland – has been given the number one spot, having been voted by its inhabitants as the happiest place to live in the UK.

It also happens to be described as one of the most picturesque parts of the UK, with inhabitants there experiencing a more measured pace of life than in other areas. With a population of approximately 27,400 living on just 15 of its 50 plus islands, in the survey residents there graded their happiness at 8.24 out of 10.

In general, those living in Northern Ireland remained the happiest in the UK, with an average rating of 7.70 out of 10. Meanwhile, the average for England is 7.47, while it’s 7.44 and 7.43 in Wales and Scotland respectively.
