Fall in EU applications since vote to leave European Union

Latest data from UCAS has revealed that Universities across the UK are experiencing a dramatic fall in applications from EU students since the vote to leave the European Union last June.

In addition, UK applicant figures have also fallen to a total of 469,490 – a drop of 5% on this time last year.

As a result, figures provided by show that the student rental sector could miss out on around £383m over the next three years, based on average rental expenditure of £4,834 per year, if the falling trend in applications continues.

Almost a year after the vote to leave the European Union, talks have now formally started between the EU and UK after Article 50 was officially triggered by Theresa May on March 29. There is a two-year time limit set for negotiations to be concluded which means all should be resolved by March 29 2019.
