Wimbledon quarter finals hots up for British players

For the first time in 44 years, Britain will have men’s and women’s quarter finalists at Wimbledon after both Andy Murray and Johanna Konta won their matches.

Out on Court One, sixth seed Konta beat Caroline Garcia (France) 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-4, making her the first British woman to reach the last eight since 1984. Meanwhile, over on Centre Court, defending champion Andy Murray saw off the challenge from Frenchman Benoit Paire to win in straight sets 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 6-4.

The Championships continue today for Konta (Tuesday 11th July), who plays second seed Simona Halep from Romania while, on Wednesday 12th July, Murray, who has now reached his 10th consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final, will take on American 24th seed Sam Querrey.
