Langer claims record as 10th senior major

POSTED ON 02 AUGUST 2017

Bernhard Langer has won the Senior Open by three shots, making this his third senior major of the season

The win also sets a record for the German who has now notched up 10 career senior majors – which is one more than Gary Player.

Langer also won the Senior Open when it last took place in Porthcawl, which was back in 2014. Welshman Phillip Price was the best placed home golfer, finishing joint sixth on one over.

Meanwhile, the 146th Open competition was won by Jordan Spieth despite at one point struggling to hold onto a three-stroke lead.

“This is as much of a high as I’ve ever experienced in my golfing life,” he said. “And I’m going to enjoy it more than I’ve enjoyed anything that I’ve accomplished in the past.”

Should Spieth also win the US PGA Championship taking place later this month, he would beat Tiger Woods’s record as the youngest winner of all four majors.
