The winner of Celebrity MasterChef 2017 is…

BBC presenter Angellica Bell has taken home the trophy of Celebrity MasterChef 2017 with her menu of halibut, perfectly poached pear and classy camembert

The presenter, best known for being the face of CBBC for more than six years, as well as fronting numerous series including The Saturday Show, Short Change and 50/50, impressed the judges with her menu which featured a fig tart and camembert starter, followed by a main of pan-fried halibut. However, it was her dessert of pear bourdaloue with amaretto jelly and mascarpone that was the show stopper.

Bell admitted that she would love to do better than her husband and former show finalist, Michael Underwood, and now she can finally reclaim her family kitchen, following Underwood’s success on the programme in 2012.

The competition was close, with fellow contestants and runners up, Ulrika Jonsson and Dev Griffin, serving impressive menus. Griffin’s lemon dessert brought back childhood memories for judge Gregg Wallace, but the DJ was let down by the combination of textures in his main. Meanwhile, Jonsson’s Scandinavian mackerel, beetroot and fennel dish was called ‘clever’, however the presenter was perhaps scarred by her raw lamb experience earlier in the competition as she slightly overcooked the meat for her main, but undercooked the pastry on her tarte tatin.

Both Griffin and Jonsson were gracious, with Griffin commenting: “I’m happy with that, that was deserved” and Jonsson agreeing: “I feel that was the right result”.
