Research shows positive attitude towards estate agents

Feefo, a review and insight company, recently conducted a report exploring consumer attitudes towards estate agents

Using research conducted by polling firm Censuswide, Feefo drew on the direct experiences of 1,152 UK consumers asking them on clues as to how the estate agency industry might evolve. Aspects that they researched included what people look for when it comes to service, the factors that influence their choices, change they would like to see in the industry, opinions on new technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence and, finally, how online customer reviews impact decision making.

The results show that consumers have more positive attitudes towards estate agents with more than half of the respondents saying that the last agent they used was efficient and effective. The largest group (44%) said it was the speed in which queries were answered.

Another important factor to consumers was trust, which plays a big role in which estate agent consumers select, with knowledge of the local market being the dominant factor when they have their properties valued. Following this, 34% want the estate agent to get them the best deal and 25% find that speed and efficiency were most important to them. It should also be noted that the human touch also still counts and more than one in five said they wanted their estate agent to be friendly and approachable.

Low-fees and quality of service are also important to consumers with 41% of sellers and 38% of landlords more concerned with the quality of service, whereas buyers and renters (35% to 36%) said that low fees mattered to them.

Reviews, which are rapidly growing in influence, are especially important to the younger age groups. An amazing 70% of 25 to 34 year olds said that they rely on reviews before they decided which estate agent to use and 68% of renters also read reviews first.

Finally, Feefo also researched the impact of technology and found that 46% of consumers want technology to sort out paper work while 32% said that virtual reality tours of properties would make transactions easier when it comes to buying, selling, letting or renting.
