The winner of the GBBO is…

POSTED ON 06 NOVEMBER 2017

Last week 7.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the final of the Great British Bake Off, despite Prue Leith revealing the winner on Twitter before the show aired. Bravo, Sophie

The show attracted the largest audience of the series and the biggest for Channel 4 since the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games.

We saw a large entremet for the final showstopper which is a delicate multilayered cake. Winner, Sophie made an “Ode to the Honey Bee” which included lavender and lemon flavours; although uncertain, the judges loved it.

Finalist, Kate on the other hand, made a white chocolate, yuzu and lychee cake, whilst Steven’s cake had 14 elements with a yin-yang design.

However, there was controversy over the final when Prue Leith announced the winner 12 hours before the show was due to broadcast. The tweet was deleted moments after but unfortunately had been widely shared. Leith later apologised and explained that the error was due to her being overseas: “I’m in Bhutan, the time difference is massive. I thought that they got it six hours ago”.
